Collagen production slows down with age and can cause sagging, loose skin. A Silhouette lift, also known as a thread lift, provides an alternative to a surgical facelift. The non-surgical procedure can give you a natural lift for a more youthful face and neck.

Is a Silhouette Lift right for me?

Men and women over 30 who are experiencing frustrating wrinkles or sagging skin can be candidates for a Silhouette Lift. You may experience:

  • Sagging skin or wrinkles on the cheeks, jawline, and neck
  • A perpetual “tired” appearance
  • Marionette lines from the edge of the mouth downward
  • Nasolabial folds from the nostrils down to the corners of the mouth

The minimally-invasive procedure requires little to no downtime. A Silhouette Lift can give you natural-looking results without extended time off work. It can also be used to prolong the need for a more invasive procedure.

Silhouette Lift – How it Works

Thread lifts were performed as early as the 1990’s with permanent barbed sutures, but the procedure declined in popularity as other non-surgical procedures emerged. Vast improvements in the materials and techniques used during the procedure have led to a resurgence in recent years. Now the procedure is FDA approved and provides a safe, effective alternative to a facelift.

Modern thread lifts are performed using innovative, biodegradable threads and sutures. Silhouette Lift sutures are typically made of polypropylene. It is completely safe, dissolves over time, and has been used in various medical procedures for many years.

No incisions are needed because the sutures are injected into the treatment area. The cone-shaped sutures anchor into the surrounding fat and tissue. When pulled, each of the sutures grabs onto its surroundings to provide the natural lift.

About the Procedure

You will receive a topical anesthetic for your comfort. The threads are injected and the sutures are secured to the underlying tissue. The thread is pulled, moving all of the surrounding tissue to a higher, more youthful position. The thread is trimmed to be flush with the skin, and is then imperceptible to others.

The entire procedure can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many threads you will need and the number of treatment areas.

The sutures will break down over time. Your body produces collagen and elastin to take its place, which preserves the results of your Silhouette Lift even after the threads have dissolved.

Recovery

Recovery time is short and easily tolerated because of the non-surgical nature of the Silhouette Lift. You may take two to five days off work depending on how many threads were used and your level of comfort. The injection sites heal quickly so there will be little to no indication you had a cosmetic procedure.

Avoid excessive facial movements and sleep on your back for the first one to two weeks while the sutures are settling into place. Refrain from massaging the treated areas because you risk dislodging the sutures during the initial healing stages.

What kind of results can I expect?

The results of your Silhouette Lift will be visible immediately. The threads physically reposition the skin and underlying tissue to give you a refreshed appearance. Your cheeks will be heightened and your jawline will be more defined. The tightening of the skin also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The threads boost the production of collagen and elastin in the area for three to six months following the procedure. The collagen will continue to improve the look and feel of your skin as the sutures dissolve. A revitalizing Silhouette Lift typically lasts up to two years.
