Aging, heredity or fluctuations in weight may be factors in the drooping and sagging appearance of your arms. While you may routinely diet and exercise, the upper arms can be a challenging area to tighten and tone. The arm lift, also known as Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that can reshape the upper arm between the underarm and elbow.

This procedure can improve loose skin and fullness of the arms along with hanging skin in the armpits. The arm lift reduces excess skin and fat of the upper arms to provide a smoother, more toned and proportionate appearance. It is also possible for liposuction techniques to be utilized during surgery for optimum results.

Advantages of an Arm Lift

  • Slims, tones and reshapes the upper arm contours
  • Steps in where dieting and exercise have failed to provide results
  • Relieves chaffing and irritation caused by low-hanging arm skin
  • Achieves a more flattering fit in swimwear, eveningwear and clothing
  • Helps to boost self-confidence in one’s image

Am I a Good Candidate?

Dr. Stevens recommends the arm lift procedure for adult men and women who are physically healthy and looking to improve sagging, full or loose upper arms. Realistic goals for improvement are necessary as well.

  • A good candidate…
  • Is physically and psychologically healthy
  • Is at or close to their ideal weight
  • Has no major medical issues
  • Has realistic expectations for improvement rather than perfection
  • Has not been able to slim the arms through diet and exercise alone
  • Is suffering from the effects of the aging process

What to expect after surgery

After surgery, it is common to experience swelling during the initial healing process. Patients may also experience some discomfort. This can be countered with prescription medication. A special compression garment may be needed to be worn for up to one month to help minimize the swelling and to provide support. While a smoother, tighter upper arm contour will be visible immediately after surgery, the final result may not be apparent until all of the swelling has subsided. A return to work and other light activity can be expected within about one week after the arm lift.
